Yesterday
Yesterday I took a walk along the beach
I watched as the stars twinkled above me
The waves licked calmly against the shore
This solitude was so peaceful inside me
Alone on the beach just walking
Thoughts of the past drifting around
Things I thought were so important
None of it really mattered I know that
Yet at the time they consumed my life
I was so wrapped up in my own self-pity
Funny how life has its twists and turns
Showing us one thing then doing another
So many of us take the little things for granite
Never noticing the pebbles for the stones
Stopping I glance around at the emptiness
For the first time in my life I am happy
Happy to just be alive and to feel so much
To be able to smile at nothing at all
Laughing and giggle just becoz it feels good
The little things in life that’s what counts
Like the tide that slowly changes the sands
Time changes us if only we let it.
